Collect the dry, the fallen, the forgotten
I am Lorenzo Natali, a landscape architect and computational designer. GENERAFORMA is not a decision about how an object should look, it is a decision to let the object be computed: an algorithm reads nature's own logic and generates the form, point by point, so that the object is alive both digitally and, through 3D printing, physically.

A landscape is not designed the way a building is. It is set going. You choose a slope, a soil, a species, and then the thing grows into a shape you did not draw. I spent years working that way outdoors before I started asking whether an object could be made the same way.
It can. Every GENERAFORMA surface is a function (a wave, a terrain, a diffraction pattern) evaluated point by point until it closes into a solid. I set the rules and the coefficients. The geometry that comes back is not something I could have drawn by hand, and that is the point.
The printer runs in Teramo. Nothing is made before it is ordered, so there is no warehouse of unsold forms and every piece that leaves the studio is one someone chose. Plant-based PLA goes in; a water-tight vessel comes out; the packaging is unbleached cardboard and nothing else.
What goes into the vessel is not my decision. Collect the dry, the fallen, the forgotten. The second act belongs to you.
